Guerlain Chicherit announces the emergence of Special ONE Racing, a new car racing team, as part of which he will be entering two Delta Evo-e RXs for himself and Sébastien Loeb in the World Rallycross Championship.
As a new player in the mobility landscape, Special ONE’s aim is to manufacture and distribute exclusive, eco-friendly, sporty vehicles such as the Delta Evo-e, an icon of the 1980s-1990s, retrofitted t o e lectric. T he s ports b ranch – Special ONE Racing – promotes the brand’s market-facing creations by seeing their racing versions on the start line at major international sporting events.
Represented by Sébastien Lesonneur, Special ONE Racing will be entrusting this year – and for at least three seasons – two Delta Evo-e RXs in the World Rallycross Championships to Guerlain Chicherit and Sébastien Loeb (in parallel to their respective commitments to Rally Raid). With this calibre of driver, the team has unsurprisingly lofty aspirations, especially as the car designed and manufactured by GCK Performance has already shown great potential from its début last November at the Nürburgring.
Despite the fact that both drivers are familiar with the discipline – Guerlain Chicherit with 40 starts in the premier category and Sébastien Loeb having already won two victories in 2016 and 2018 – they will nevertheless have to adapt to a landscape that has changed radically last year with the shift to “all electric”. Fuelled by two 250kW engines each (680CV in total), these new generation cars can go from 0 to 100km/hr in 1.8 seconds… which is seven tenths faster than an F1 with the same measurement! The first of nine rounds of the World RX 2023 is set to take place on 03 and 04 June in Montalegre, Portugal.
Special One Racing will be presenting its car and drivers on Sunday 21 May at the Charade Super Show.
It’s a dream of mine to be able to align two cars of my own brand with the World RX, one of which is entrusted to a sports legend. The scene is set to see Special ONE Racing become a top-notch team. From this season, we’ll have the opportunity to make history, becoming the first to have a retrofitted car win a World Championship race. Let’s get going!
Guerlain Chicherit, Special ONE Racing driver
I’m from a generation that was brought up seeing wins by Lancia Deltas in rally racing. So I naturally have a weakness for this car. But when Guerlain spoke to me the first time about tackling a rallycross, I thought he was mad! Then I tried the car in December 2022 and I was immediately won over by its dynamic qualities. I have great faith in this project and I can’t wait to champion it on tracks around the world.
